Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate,
With the chemical formula MgSO4 · 7H2O, is a white or colorless needle shaped or oblique columnar crystal structure, odorless. Heat decomposition gradually removes crystalline water and turns into anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Mainly used in the manufacturing of fertilizers, leather making, printing and dyeing, catalysts, papermaking, plastics, porcelain, pigments, matches, explosives, and fire-resistant materials. It can be used for printing and dyeing thin cotton fabrics and silk, as a weighting agent for cotton fibers and a filler for kapok products. In medicine, it is used as a laxative salt.
